I wrote this back on April 14th or 15th I believe, and forgot to post it...shocker :)
Hmm, where to begin? Do I start with the volcano hike, that one time I contracted malaria or perhaps the summer in Amsterdam when I gave wrong directions to the Amazing Race contestants? As a side note, part of the reason for writing these is that I want to get better at telling stories. My Grandpa Browning was the best storyteller I’ve ever heard and I always loved hearing his stories. If you find this half as enjoyable as I used to find his stories, it will be well worth the effort.
A couple nights ago several of us went to a local (semi-local, they’re expanding which is great news since they’re awesome!) seafood restaurant here in Fort Myers named Pinchers.
We had four people total join New Mission Systems International, one couple and two single guys. All of them were wonderful people to get to know over the past week. Anyway, before we got our food a friend asked if anyone had any good travel stories to share. This got me to thinking, “Hmm, I have several travel stories. Maybe I should write a blog series about them.” I’ve been wanting to write a blog series again lately, this seems as good a topic as any.
Some of these I’ve already written on this blog I’m sure, but it’s fun to revisit them for me and hopefully for others as well. Some are from my pre-Blogger days so hopefully people will enjoy those as well. And I want to include pictures since I like pictures and don’t usually include them on my blogs.
As I look back at some of these adventures, I would probably think someone was telling me a complete lie had I not lived through them. I have pictures for most of them thankfully so that should help dispel doubt a little bit anyway. Once upon a time I also wanted to make a children’s book series out of these stories; I still might try that someday but right now I’m more of a hack than an actual writer. Donald Miller said it best when he tweeted something about how real writers write every day no matter what and hacks just write when they feel like it. Guilty as charged.
Plus, it appears the ranting has already begun about the presidential election in 2016 so I wanted people to have something else to read if they want to. Something light and distracting. That’s part of the appeal of social media, right, something light to distract us from the weight of everyday living?
