Life Interruptions

This fall has seen a lot of change in the Hemming household.  First we had a miscarriage, then our neighbors above us had a fire, then we found a new place to call home.  It's been a wild ride, but God has been by our sides through it all.

I'm beginning to think change is more regular than constancy.  We long for constancy, but God shows up more clearly in the interruptions of life.  These interruptions are often the last thing we want while simultaneously being the places God meets us.  Without them we get so self-absorbed we forget about the important things in life.  We get wrapped up in the day to day grind and forget to think about the bigger picture.

One of our preachers shared last weekend how if you take out the interruptions in Jesus' life you aren't left with too much of the Gospels.  I had never considered that but love the idea of it.  As to whether that sinks into my soul the next time I'm interrupted or if I get upset that my schedule is thrown off for a while remains to be seen.  If I looked at interruptions as opportunities to witness God at work that would leave me much better off and open to what God wants to do with my heart.

The fire has refined our faith.  God has showed off through the generosity of His people.  He has been so faithful.  Before the miscarriage and fire I remember praying for Him to strengthen my faith.  I specifically remember praying hesitantly because I knew there was one way to increase my faith, through difficult times.  While I don't believe God caused the miscarriage or fire, I do believe He used them to increase our faith.
