It's an 8 apartment building. 8 families and couple's lives, completely upended. Thankfully no one was hurt and that's what is most important as anyone will tell you. After that is accounted for, there are still some major consequences for everyone involved.
When you go through something like this, there are a multitude of reactions, and I imagine many people react several different ways. I told someone last week I was fighting a victim mentality. Technically we were victims, but a victim mentality never helps anyone.
A major reaction of mine has been humility. People have been incredibly generous to us in the aftermath of this. God's clearly at work in our lives and we're reminded of His goodness even in the midst of these circumstances.
Worship songs ring truer now. At first my reaction was worship was difficult. Perhaps it just looked differently in the form of a humble and contrite spirit rather than praising Him at that moment.
My relationship with Christ has been strengthened through all this. For that I'm incredibly grateful. He is there on the mountaintop but He draws even nearer in our times of brokenness.
